About Skills Development Institute
and Its Progress

The Skills Development Institute (SDI) is a flagship initiative and sister concern of Atish Dipankar University of Science & Technology (ADUST), established to transform higher education into a dynamic force for employability, innovation and entrepreneurship. As ADUST advances towards becoming a skills and entrepreneurship-driven university, SDI serves as its strategic platform for bridging the gap between academic learning and the demands of the modern economy.

Bangladesh possesses one of the largest youth populations in South Asia, offering a significant demographic dividend. However, despite remarkable progress in education, many young people remain unemployed or underemployed due to inadequate market-relevant skills, limited entrepreneurial capacity and insufficient exposure to the world of work. Recognising this challenge, ADUST established SDI to create a new paradigm in which education translates directly into productive skills, employment opportunities and enterprise development.

Guided by the philosophy of Tarunney Biniyog (Invest in Youth), SDI is committed to equipping learners with future-ready competencies through industry-aligned training, digital literacy, technical and vocational education, language training, internships, apprenticeships and entrepreneurship incubation. The institute seeks to nurture a new generation of skilled professionals, innovators and job creators capable of contributing to Bangladesh's socioeconomic transformation.

SDI's vision is to transform education into skills, innovation and inclusive growth for a skilled and entrepreneurial Bangladesh. Its mission is to empower youth with future-ready skills, digital fluency and entrepreneurship, thereby creating innovators and job creators.

The institute offers a wide range of short courses and professional training programmes in areas such as digital marketing, artificial intelligence, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), customer service, tele-sales, entrepreneurship, mobile servicing and workplace communication. Through its Language Centre, SDI also provides training in English, Arabic, Japanese, Korean and other international languages to enhance both domestic and overseas employability. In addition, SDI offers a number of government-certified and National Skills Development Authority (NSDA)-approved courses, ensuring nationally recognised qualifications and industry relevance.

A distinctive feature of SDI is its strong emphasis on partnerships and collaboration. The institute has established strategic linkages with national and international universities, industries and training organisations in countries including the United Kingdom, South Korea and Russia. These collaborations facilitate joint certification, workforce placement, academic exchange and global skills development opportunities.

Beyond training, SDI actively promotes internships, apprenticeships, career development, policy dialogue and enterprise incubation. By integrating skills development with innovation and entrepreneurship, SDI aspires to become a nationally recognised platform that prepares youth not merely as job seekers, but as productive citizens, ethical leaders and creators of employment.
